National folds

Parata's beaten. This is indeed 'Good News".

Shows just how much grunt the education sector has.

Lots.

ha ha ha, the rot is really starting to show. Even the "we don't support eugenics. Yet." dog-whistle didn't work.
The next significant reform announcement, which will involve taking the control of water out of local hands, will be much more palatable.

Maybe not "next", but it's not far away

It's been on the cards for a long time now. Tim Shadbolt is primed to decry that one from the rooftops. I'll be adding my voice. Both of us have had several goes through the local media over the past few years.

Expect an announcement this month. Wholesale reorganisation of local government ("supercities" for everyone) to follow six to twelve months later, in time for 2013 elections.
Prepare to be painted as a self-serving trougher, incapable of seeing the wider good.

I'm prepared and primed to fight.
I see there's a lot of pressure going onto farmers who 'take' water to have water-meters installed immediately. That's got to be a good thing, doesn't it? After all, the industry keeps saying, you can manage what you don't measure!

It was amazing for me to see an overseas company given the water contract for Invercargill. It doesnt matter who is in government, the overseas money hungry pratts would still be putting serious pressure on local governments for lucrative contracts. So Mr Councillor, when does the Riverton contract get given over to them?

I don't know, Towack. I will find out where we are at.

I expect that if there was legislation that said "you may not do this", the money hungry overseas prats would be much less overt in their sniffing around. As it is, the legislation says "you may do this" and the new version is likely to say "you should do this". If the government get their way, it will say "you must do this".
"this" = contract out/sell.
How do you feel about that?

"the overseas money hungry pratts"
How do they differ from those who will 'invest' in our energy assets, I wonder? Same prats, I'm guessing, whatever their guise.

It is sad that overseas money will flow in to buy our assetts, NZ'ers could buy them but most of them are too over committed to their TV / Ipod payments to have any money to spare. The upside is, plenty of shares for me to buy :) And I will be!

Self-interest! Who'd have guessed?
